A WORD FROM THE
PASTOR:
June 1, 2009
Another hot and humid Alabama summer is now well under way. The
lyrics of a song years ago mentioned the "hazy, lazy, crazy days of
summer." As we move into the month of June, the days at
Northside will be anything by "lazy"... and I pray they will not get
too "crazy" as another Vacation Bible School rolls around!
In this year's exciting "Boomerang Express" VBS, "kidaroos" will
learn through five Bible lessons base on the New Testament character
Peter that "it all comes back to Jesus" as we follow Him, worship
Him, confess Him, serve Him, and obey Him.
As final preparations are made, make VBS a priority in your prayer
life. Pray for Carla Stricklin as she again ably serves as our
director. Pray for the "Outback Guides" (a.k.a.
"teachers") as they will lead in the Bible Study and Rotations Sites
each evening. Pray for every boy, girl, and adult that will
attend. Some will be ready to trust Jesus as Lord and Savior.
Pray that we will again be blessed to see those who are ready come
to saving faith in Christ.
And plan to help get the word out about VBS in the community around
the church by helping in the VBS Blitz on Saturday morning, June
13th.
Vacation Bible School remains among the most effective outreach
tools we have as Southern Baptists. Pray that we will again
have a great VBS!
Also, please pray for those who will go to Michigan the end of June
to conduct a Mission VBS at Thorn Hill Baptist church, our
partnership church in Hudson, Michigan. As of this writing,
the following have committed to go: Theresa Burns, Luke
Hembree, Ed King, Alex Lindsey, Tina McArthur, Wilene McGukin, and
Dennis and Shirley Jo Trimble. Please note the details on
Events and Activities webpage of how you can share in a tangible way
in what God will do in Michigan through the fellowship and auction
scheduled for June 7th.
"Lazy" days?? Not hardly!!! But as we seek to remain faithful to the
work God has given us to do, don't forget that it's not about me and
it's not about you... It's still all about Him!
